Southlands Christian Middle School serves students in grades 7 & 8. SCS Middle School students have daily oversight and care from a core homeroom teacher, as well as input from multiple specialty teachers for core subjects, electives, and extracurricular. Our homeroom model for these two years enables students to successfully bridge these critical transitionary years prior to entering a more independent secondary school learning model in high school.  Our middle schoolers excel as they participate in leveled core subjects, FLEX (Foundational Learning Experience) projects, spiritual formation, the arts, and much more!

Advanced Core

SCS’ academic program is challenging, yet well-balanced. Middle school students have the opportunity to take grade-level or advanced-level coursework. This enables students to stay challenged and grow at a pace appropriate for their individual needs. Students may enjoy access to high-school level coursework and our adaptive learning technology ensure each student is getting appropriate support and pacing within the academic program.

STEAM

STEAM is integrated into program for all middle schoolers. Students engage in hands-on projects that integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. This is in addition to our core academic program and helps develop young leaders for tomorrow’s STEM fields. Students love exploring the engaging activities as they gain exposure and knowledge in today’s modern world!

FLEX Projects

Foundational Learning Experience (FLEX) projects are a unique aspect of the education at Southlands. Students engage in quarterly FLEX projects in the following four fields of study: (1) STEM, (2) Entrepreneurial Leadership, (3) Humanities & Arts, and (3) Ministry and Community Service. Through hands on learning experiences, students develop core academic and leadership skills as part of the learning journey.

Spiritual Formation

Spiritual formation at the middle school level takes place both inside and outside of the classroom. Students enjoy daily Bible class, weekly chapel, disciple makers club, intercessory prayer, and much more. In addition, our students start the year off with a spiritual retreat and participate in mini-camps and service projects throughout the year. Connecting young people with God, helping them understand their identity in Christ, and helping them begin their spiritual journey with God is a core part of the Southlands experience.

Social Emotional Learning

Today’s learners need a proactive, Biblical approach to social emotional learning. Relationship with God and self, as well as with others is crucial for young people today. Southlands has adopted a formal Bible-based social-emotional learning curriculum to help serve our families in this area. Additionally, we have chaplains and support staff available for students who need prayer and additional help.
